Remaking Taylor Swift's 'RED' Digipak

This is our plan for the remaking of the Digipak. We chose to recreate Taylor Swift's RED. We decided to use this because it would be realistic for us to copy as the locations; props and make up were all accessible to us. One of the pictures was set in front of a forest which was the only picture where we had to go outside to take the photo.

This is our finished digipak. As you can see we kept the pictures the similar through and kept to the colour scheme. Doing this made our digipak look realistic and similar to the professionally made digipak. Problems we faced during this task were getting the lines onto the disk of the digipak. We feel that if we want to use lines like this again we need to use better software in order to get them to fit the circle. Doing this task has allowed us to gain the knowledge of digipak's that we can use when we come to make our own digipak.

This is the digipak that we created which was from Taylor Swift RED album. Recreating this was quite easy as all the locations and props were all accessible to us.

The disc of the digipak:

The part that we are missing is the lines on the disc but we thought that creating the lines was too hard and we weren’t sure how to do this on the software that we chose. This means that we need to pick a software that we can develop skills to be able to do complete a task and for it to look exactly like the original. This is important to compare it to the digipak that we are going to create for our artist and the type of genre that it fits into. For example both Taylor Swift’s digipak and our digipak will include a lot of images of the artist.

The second picture on the digipak is upside down so when the consumer folds it out it will end up being the right way around in the CD packaging. The mise en scene that we required for this task was a white top, red lipstick, a forest background, bright lighting and a pair of glasses. All these aspects were easy to get hold of which meant that we could make the images look realistic. The editing on the other hand was slightly harder as the software we chose to used, Photoshop, to create the filter was quite tricky as we couldn’t get it exactly right. When linking to the digipak that we are going to create, we need to make sure that the mise en scene is all appropriate to the star image and genre conventions.

The album cover of the digipak was the easiest to create, however the lighting was hard to match as it was darker over her eyes from her hat and we couldn’t create that effect fully. The font of our remake is different to the actual cover. This doesn’t have much of an impact as the album cover has. When creating ours we need to make the title stand out aswell as the pictures so, firstly the audience know what the album is called and it will attract them to the digipak.

The back cover of the digipak is when the track list is. We didn’t include a track list as we didn’t know what the songs were and what order they went in and it was difficult to overlap the two images. The picture also was hard to recreate as we found it hard to get the correct camera angle.

Overall this has shown me all the detail and planning that is needed when producing a digipak. Also how it portrays the star image. When it comes to making ours it’ll be a six panel digipak which means we need more images of the star so she is fully established throughout the digipak. We also need to remember the positioning of each side, for example what ones need to be upside down so when we put it all together it looks correct.
