Luna Lux: Draft 7

This is what our music video looks like so far, from draft 6 we have added the overlay shots in the second part where there is the reverse; we added this to help split up that section to make it more interesting for the viewer.

We have shown this to our teacher and they think that the time lapse shot doesn't quite fit in with the rest of the video as it is in a completely different location to the rest of the music video, this means that we may have to go back and brainstorm to think up with different ideas of what we could do to replace that shot.

Title no.2

This is the second idea that we had for our music video. We thought that this title would flow better with the music video than the projector one, as it goes straight into the music video while the other one has to change shot which takes longer. We went wound and showed the two different opening titles to our target audience and they preferred the projector as it brings the vintage side of our artist out.

Title Ideas and Progression

This was the first title that we thought about creating. We first wanted something that would fit in with the video and the artist’s star image that is when we came up with the idea of having an old projector that is all grainy to give it an old fashion look. This would fit in with the artist star image because, it’s very individual and vintage which is what she is all about. We create this on Adobe After effects.

This is the second’s part where we added in the rounded square to make it look like a projector. Also we added the grain and scratches to make it look old. I searched to find out how to create this effect and surprisingly it was quite easy. Adding the spinning screen on to this title was quite hard as I didn’t quite understand how to do, so I had to experiment a little to work out myself what I needed to do to get it to do this effect. From using Offset I was able to create this effect.

This is what the title looks like when it was finished, we sped up the title spinning round to make it look more believable. However from adding this to our music video, it didn’t quite flow very well as it was a completely different which meant that it was quite jittery. Also I thought that it looked like more of a film production logo than a music video title. This means that we need to create a title which it slightly more subtle and will flow better with the music video, for it to be more effective.

Luna Lux: Draft 5

From draft 4 we added all the new footage that we got from the underwater day. Some of the shots that we did underwater we felt that maybe it was too reviling so we overlaid some shots to make them better.  From these shots it helped to make the longer shots shorter. As we are now happy with what we have so far we can start getting a lot of feedback from our target audience and create a focus group to make sure we get the most out of what we can get out of the. The only problem we have with asking peers from our school to give us feedback for our music video is that they would be too nice as they know us. This means we need to figure out a way that we can get our audiences real opinion about our music video so it can help us move forward.

Draft of the Website

We wanted our website to be as interactive as possible , so for this we wanted to create many pages for fans to view. There are some screen shots of our website so far.

Explaining our website so far...
The welcome page will first appear when the audience access the site. We wanted one as it will help market the music video that we will be releasing. Right now it is very plain as it is only a draft, so to improve this page we will want to maybe have a boarder which will fit with her star image to make the page look a little more interesting.

The next page is the home page of the site the background is a colour kaleidoscope, we thought that this will help to add to her star image of being quite quirky and different. There are links to her social networking sites, such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Tumblr, these are all linked so when you click on the button the site will open up. This will help to make the page more interactive and help her fans to keep in touch with her.

The information page Luna Lux has left a note to the fans about her and the release of her new album. This is a conventional page to have on a website as it gives the audience a way to get to know the artist. Also the “Luna Lux xoxo” has a transition on that makes it look like she is writing it on, which makes it feel more personal to the fans and like she actually wrote on it.
The music page where the audience can listen to her music, as it has all the songs on from her album. The East of Eden song actually plays, but as the other songs are not real they do not have any sound to them. We also made a place where there fans can leave their comments below of what they thought of the album.

Next is the social networking site where it has all the feeds coming from her Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. This is an easier way for the audience to see what she is posting and what she is up to, but also helps to make the website more interactive.

The gallery is where all the pictures from shooting the video are and of the artist, this gives the audience something to view. When the mouse hovers over, the pictures slide zooming into the chosen picture to see the entire picture. This helps the site to become more interactive and makes it more interesting.

The merchandise site is where fans can buy the clothing. When they hover over the picture they can see how much it will cost and if they click on it they can chose the size they want with which design. As the size gets bigger the more expensive it is.

The inspiration page is to make the website different from others. This is where she will put her inspirations, for example, the book also named East of Eden and there will be links to listen to her favourite music. This is hopefully making the website really interactive.

Merchandise

These pictures are of our first batch of merchandise. We created them in different ways, using photoshop. We started with the most common items such as: t-shirts, pillows and wristbands. We found that these are important to have due to our target audience and also as these are vital items. Having these items will be worthwhile for our artist. We then went on to create other things which make our artist more unique. We have started to bring out our star image through all of these items.
From feedback, we found that we need to make a stronger logo which is simple but effective. We also need to create a clear indication between mens tops & womens tops.

Dates for Tour T-Shirts

These are the different Tour Dates styles that we could have on the back of our tops or any other merchandise that we chose to have on our website. We tried the list out in different colours to see what would look the best and suit the genre of the artist.  We went round asking our target audience what they thought would be to have on the back of the top. The most popular choice was black, as this was the most traditional colour to have as a colour. This would help to make our top look more professional, and more attractive to buy for our consumers.

We choose these venues as they are mainly for upcoming artists that are trying to get their name out to potential listeners. Also they are quite small which means that she will be able to invite most of her fans to these gigs. Also they will be cheaper to hire than bigger venues such as Brixton Academy. This suits our artists image as she doesn't want to be seen as a conventional singer that does the same as everyone else, so from her performing in these independent venues it will highlight that part of her image.

Fonts for East Of Eden

These are the different fonts that we thought about having for the single of East of Eden.  We picked these six different fonts to choose from as they were very different from the everyday look. Now we need to go and ask are target audience which they prefer and why to see which one we should use.

Fonts for 'Fools Paradise'

These are a handful of the fonts that we found could be used for our album title. We picked them so that they fitted our target audience and even our star image. We wanted the fonts to be unique and rememberable. We liked these four fonts as they were different from the everyday font that you see on albums, this would help her to stand out more as an artist. From these four we need to pick the best one that fits in with her genre. When asking our target audience, the most popular font was number 3.  We found this was because it is very different and fits with genre of our album. This font can be used on our digipak, website and merchandise.

Behind the Scenes with Luna lux: Day 3

This behind the scenes just shows how we got some of the underwater shots for the music video. This was a very challenging shooting day as it required physical strength as well, to be able to stay under water for a long time and to track the artist while she is swimming. The girl that plays Luna was an average swimmer which meant that we did have to take frequent breaks so she could get her breath back. Also there was one shot that we wanted to do where she is laying on top of the water lip syncing, but she couldn't lay on top of the water as she found it very hard, this meant that we had to think of a different idea of where she could do it. Overall I do think that it was a very successful shooting day because, we managed to do everything that we planned to do with extra shots so if the ideas that we planned to do didn't look good then we had extra shots that we could use as well.

Luna Lux: Draft 4

Today we have finally finished the basis of the first lot of editing. We need to  get feedback of what they like and what needs to be improved, so when we get to our filming days we can add  more which will hopefully make the music video more effective. Since we have the first basis done it also means that we can to start putting together our Digipak and website.

From draft 3 we got rid of the red effect and changed it to green as, this makes the footage more green and natural.  We have added in footage to get rid of the blank spaces, but still yet to have another filming day. The main things that we put in is the footage that happens after the bridge, this is the whole of the music video in reverse with a ghost effect which helps it to look like a dream.  Now we have a basis from a full music video, now we need to get feedback. From my personal feedback there are shots that are very long and need to be cut down, so my objective for the next editing session will be to shorten them down, which will help to make the video more entertaining and less boring.

Luna Lux: Draft 3

From draft 2 we added an effect called luminosity on to the very first shot which enhances the colour, we did this as we are very happy with it being the first shot. Also across the whole of the video we have added an effect which emphasise the red which helps to make the video look more vintage. We want the video to look vintage as it will help like in with her star image because; this is her first music video so it really needs to establish her as an artist.  On the second shot we have added a light effect which gradually fades in the footage; this will help it not to be so abrupt and looks like an old movie.  Also on the shot where Luna turns round with the candle over lapping her we have added an effect where the first footage splits up into 4 different screens. This helps to really exaggerate that movement and makes it really over the top.  Next we added a time lapse of the clouds over the top of a close up of Luna. This adds to her star image to make her look naturey. Then we added a ghost effect on to the shots of her running as it makes it look jagged. On the fountain shot we added another overlay of a close up of Luna doing the "oh oh oh" as it adds more of the lip syncing to the video.  On the still image of the water we have added an effect which makes it shake like water, as this really goes with the music. When is gets to the second "running in the dark" with e side view of Luna we have added a kaleidoscope on top of the footage which we made in Adobe After effects. We added this as it gives the video more of a concept side and not just performance. We added more footage to the bridge of the song, and there are blank parts in the middle as we need to have another filming day to fill in that time.  To improve would be to fill in the blank spaces.

Questionnaire For Artist Name

In order to find the perfect name for our artist we made a short questionnaire which we asked to our target audience. This helped us to make sure that we had to perfect name which our audience would love and notice. We did this by asking 3 short questions which were straight to the point and relevant. The 3 questions asked were the following:
- Do you think an artists name is important?
- When looking at our artist, which name do you feel suits her the most? (We held up a picture of our artist)
- What type of music (genre) does she create when hearing her name?

Luna Lux: Draft 2

From daft 1 we haven't changed anything from the first part of the song which is the first verse to the chorus, but we have added more shots to the second verse and the first part of the chorus. We haven't added any major effects to it yet, as we wanted to get all the shots in first  to see what works and what doesn't then when we are happy the effects will go on last, as it will take up a lot of time to keep taking the effects on and off, so we will be wasting time.  To improve what we have I want to get more of the shots on so we have more of a video then to get some feedback to see what our target audience thinks needs improving.

Luna Lux: Good Shots

From our first lot of shooting days theses were the shots that we thought that were good and would like to put in our video. The first shot is of luna and the camera is tracking her with the rose bushes in front of her. We thought that this was a good shots as I liked the way the camera focused on the flowers in front of her instead of the artist, this really emphasised the artists image of being really flowery, also the lighting in the shot was really good as it made Luna's face light up more. The second shot was of Luna running, this shot was good as we really liked it when the bird flew away, I think that it made the shot a lot more interesting.  The time lapse shot of Luna standing in Oxford Street was a shot that we really liked as it really showed her star image of people different from everyone else and standing out. The shot by the water fountain was nice as I really liked how the light hit her. The close up of her face from a low angle was good because it was different from a conventional close up would be of the artist singing. I really liked the shot where Luna blows the powder paint into the camera as this shot allows really playing around with it, for example making it reverse to the video quirky which helps with the concept side of the music video.

Luna Lux: Bad Shots

These are the bad shots that we filmed during our shooting days.
The main reasons for some of our bad shots were:
  • Our artist forgetting the lyrics and missing up the words this meant that we couldn’t use them, because we needed to show that the artist knows all the words to the song.
  • The railing of the fence is covering her lips which meant that we cannot see her singing
  • The next one is because again she forgot the words which meant that we cannot use the shot
  • The forth shot we didn’t like very much as it cuts off one of the horse head and it shows the fence of the garden which doesn’t make it look very professional.
  • The powder paints that it thrown over her the first time wasn’t very good as there wasn’t much of an impact that people got from it. When we filmed the next shot we didn’t realise that we were going to cut her cut off when she sat down, which made the shot bad, as it didn’t focus on the artist.
  • The next shot is of her sitting at the table but when she is lip syncing she isn’t very in to it and very emotionless which doesn’t make this part look very good, so we re-filmed it so she got onto it more
  • The next shot of the horse head isn’t a very nice shot of the horse which doesn’t make the video look appealing, so we wanted to find a different way of showing the horses head.
  • The last shot isn’t very good because, it’s been filmed the wrong way round, which means even if we flip in round to the right way it will not fit in with the rest of our footage, which wouldn’t make the music video very good.

Behind the scene with Luna lux: Day 2

This is behind the scenes Day 2: With Luna Lux.

This time we filmed in my garden  as this would be more appropriate, getting everything set up and would make it easier for us, than using a nearby field. Also we didn't need to waste time asking for permission to use the field. Again this would be something that we can put on our website as fans are always interested to see what happened behind the scenes of any new music videos.

It was difficult filming my her garden as we had to make sure that we didn’t get any of the houses in or any other aspects of her garden apart from the tea party.  We hope this shows how much work went into filming this music video, and how we put everything together.

Behind the Scenes with Luna Lux Day One

This is behind the scenes with our artist Luna Lux on the first day of filming. We wanted to show our audience how we made the music video, and what locations we used throughout the video. This would be a good clip to put on the website as it will give the audience more to watch and more things to do on there. Overall filming this day went really smoothly as we got all the shots that we needed to do and more, which means that it would give us more to work with if some shots did not turn out that great.

Research on Camera Techniques

Powered by emaze

Luna Lux First Edit

This is our first draft of the post production of our music video. This is a rough outline of what we what the video to look like and  some shots are still quite long, but this gives us an idea of what we have achieved and what we need to do to go back and improve.
For example we saw that our artist is very emotionless and straight faced when singing, to contrast this we have filmed concept shots of flowers and nature, showing her care for the environment and surroundings. We can have the singer being more passionate when singing which will give the music video a good variation. From having this already we can ask our target audience what they think of it and receive feedback. Also the start of the song was quite hard as we weren't quite sure how to start it as we all had different ideas of what we wanted to put in but also, it goes straight into the lyrics which means that we do not have time to build up the shots.

Reflection on risk assessment

After filming and looking back at the risk assessment, we managed to make sure that all the risks that we identified were kept at a low, this is shown through how the team and the artist wasn’t injured and didn’t get hurt. This was a success, as if we didn’t make this assessment that maybe we wouldn’t have looked for these hazards, which meant that someone could of got hurt, which would have resulted in our filming time being reduced, which was something that we really wanted to avoided on the second day of shooting as daylight was decreasing fast, which mean that we really needed to make sure that all of our shots were completed. If we were to do it again, maybe we should of had set everything up and walked the artist through what could be dangerous for her, so she knows automatically what to look out for, which will also help to reduce any injuries while filming.

Research into Costume

This is our first research on the costume that we are going to use within our video. We defiantly wanted her to wear white as this will make her stand out from everyone and it represents the purity in her that she doesn't what to conform to society.
We decided that one outfit was going to be a long flowy dress with contrasting colour flowers. This will be used in the London filming scene because, this will make her stand out more and really emphases her star image. This will then differ with her second outfit of a white short dress with gold accessories. This will be used in the tea party shots and will show that she has more freedom and is less covered up. The gold is used to make her look more modern, and it is very bold which reflects her character. We took some images from the internet for inspiration and also used them as possible costume ideas. This was useful research as it allowed us to gain and idea on the costumes and also analyse it to fit into our genre and show some meanings behind it.

This is our risk assessment for filming. We have made a table to show what hazards could occur and what risk level they are and how the risk level could be lowered and what procurations we can take. We would take this out on set with us incase anything was to happen but we all aware of the hazards that could happen.

Why we chose our artists name.. LUNA LUX

Why we chose our artist name?

We wanted her name to stand out and be easy to say, which also makes it easy to remember. We researched names which would link t her boho/indie style. Firstly we came up with the name Luna. For having this idea we could link it to the Greek Goddess Luna, who was a embodiment of the moon. There are also other nature aspects to her name as well, as there are different islands and trees that are called Luna which will link with her star image that we are trying to create. This is an image of a Luna Moth.

After we came up with this name we thought that it needed a second name. To keep up with the light theme we chose the name Lux. After researching we found that Lux is a unit of illuminance, but also Lux is a Greek word for light, which will help create more of her star image. This lead us to name our artist…… Luna Lux.

Initial Shot Ideas

Research into Props

This is our first type of research on the main props that we will use in our video.  The three main props are animal masks, powder paint and teacups. These all symbols that will represent the main theme of the music video, which is not wanting to conform to society.  This is a message that we want to be very clear so we need to make sure that all of our mise-en-scene always links back to this theme. Props are very important to think about because, it will add to what the artist is about. For example the tea cups will be vintage to help give more of a star image for her.

Research Into Hair

When researching hair and makeup for this genre we found the style was very effortless and looked undone but put together at the same time. We found that nothing was sleek or polished. The style was very 'lived in' with curls/waves and lots of braids. When hair is down, it had texture and never looked flat. If the hair was up, they normally had braids incorporated and also had a few hair accessories like flower crowns and headbands, these are also a factor we would like to include in our video.

These are a few pictures of how we would like the hair for our artist:
